President's Biography

Dr. 罗纳德·H. Nowaczyk

Dr. Ronald Nowaczyk brings more than 35 years of experience in varied higher education roles to his presidency of Frostburg State University. He most recently served as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Clarion University, a public comprehensive institution in Pennsylvania that enrolls about 5,500 students in more than 100 academic programs.

在号角, Nowaczyk facilitated eight new degree programs in response to student demand; increased online bachelor-level program offerings; established funding opportunities for faculty development, including increased institutional support for research, scholarship and outreach; and developed an academic strategic plan focused on increasing student enrollment and graduation rates.

Before joining Clarion in 2011, Nowaczyk served in numerous positions in higher-education administration, including dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of New Haven (2006-2011), associate vice chancellor for economic and community development at East Carolina University (2003-2006), and chair of ECU’s Department of Psychology (1998-2002). He also served for a year as an ACE Fellow at the University of Delaware (2001-2002).

Prior to his roles as an administrator, Nowaczyk began as a faculty member in psychology, and he remains a passionate educator. Nowaczyk began his career in the Department of Psychology at Clemson University in 1977, where he remained in a succession of faculty positions through 1998. During his time at Clemson, Nowaczyk served as president of the 教师 Senate, his first experience with administrative duties. In 1998, when he was hired as chair of the Department of Psychology for East Carolina University, Nowaczyk continued to work as a professor, a role he maintained after rising to become Vice Chancellor in 2003. Even as he rose through the administrative ranks, Nowaczyk made time to teach as a dean.

His other professional experiences include serving as a visiting scientist at the Institute for Computer Applications in Science and Engineering at NASA Langley Research Center in 1997, and as a visiting human factors research consultant at AT&T Bell Laboratories from 1989 to 1990.

Nowaczyk has also been an active citizen in the communities where he has lived. 在宾夕法尼亚州, he served on the boards of the Northwest Partnerships for Regional Economic Performance and the United Way for Clarion County, and in North Carolina’s Pitt County he served on the boards of the United Way of Pitt County, the ARC of Pitt County and the American Red Cross.
